From Prison to Programming

Rick Wolter was an an angry, underprivileged kid who spent the majority of his adult life in prison for murder.  When he read about a program at San Quentin that was teaching inmates to code, he set about teaching himself that skill by reading printed blog articles, books and smuggled Youtube tutorials and Python programming language.

Upon his release from prison, Rick obtained an associates degree in Computer Science and Analysis, enrolled in Lambda School, (a coding bootcamp) and built on his self-taught skills.

Rick now works as a computer programmer and is building a community to connect formerly incarcerated and underprivileged individuals who are learning to code with industry professionals.

We discussed his mindset and environment growing up, the relationships that made a difference and what kept him stable and helped him mature while he was incarcerated. If you're discouraged by your environment or circumstances, Rick's story will inspire you to take action to turn things around.

How Living for a Year in an RV Can Change Your Perspective

Hannah Sutor and her husband had everything except time together and memorable experiences with their new daughter outside of their demanding jobs. They sold 90% of their possessions and traded in their busy suburban life for an adventure on the road.

Hannah describes how the idea hit her, how they learned how to do it once her husband was on board and what she discovered about herself and the U.S. along the way. Finally, Hannah talked a little bit about a business idea that's brewing to give others the experience of boon docking and RV adventure without the all-in commitment that she and her husband made.

Discreet Skills & Resources Discussed on the Show

Hannah and her husband were no strangers to DIY when they started their adventure. They both were in tech which allowed them to work remotely. We also discussed some blogs and sites that helped them prepare and plan their travel
